Jolyon Rubinstein

Co-Writer & Star of BAFTA Winning 'The Revolution Will Be Televised' on BBC3

Jolyon is an actor, writer, producer and director. In 2013 he won a BAFTA for his BBC3 programme The Revolution Will Be Televised, developed with Joe Wade and Heydon Prowse. The Guardian described it as “Sacha Baron Cohen with a bit more substance” and the show went on to record 3 successful series. BBC3 then went on to commission An Idiot’s Guide to Politics which Jolyon starred in and in 2015 they commissioned the Revolution spin off Revolution Presents: Democracy Dealers. Next in his BBC career, came the BBC2 series Revolting – which Jolyon wrote and starred in.

Revolting, also produced by Hat Trick Productions, aired on BBC2 in January 2017. It is estimated to have reached 75M Facebook profiles with its lead sketch The Real Housewives Of ISIS hitting 30M views and becoming a global news story. The sketch was the 8th most shared in BBC history.

Alongside Heydon Prowse, Jolyon created critically acclaimed podcast NEWS ROAST. It hit the UK top ten early in 2017 with well over 1M downloads and featured guests like Adam Buxton, Lily Allen and Romesh Ranganathan joining them both for three courses of compelling conversation.

In 2017 Jolyon joined forces with Whistledown Productions to produce Spotify’s first ever Spotify Original satirical podcast “We Need To Talk About”, created and hosted by Jolyon. The show, which deep dives into the subjects capturing the news agenda with a mixture of irreverence and satirical humour, has become one of Spotify’s most successful Originals globally. Recorded in LA & London “We Need To Talk About” has featured Hollywood Stars Will Arnett & Jason Isaacs, comedians Russell Kane, Asim Chaudhry and Kiri Pritchard McLean and a host of MP’s and political commentators.

Jolyon is the Associate Producer and Creator of 2018’s new ITV2 hip-hop-themed panel show Dont Hate The Playaz. The show was described by Digital spy as “instantly everyone’s new favourite TV show”. Hosted by Jordan Stephens and featuring Maya Jama – it was certainly something fresh, new and exciting for the channel.

The end of 2018 saw Jolyon and Heydon’s three part series Ministry of Justice air on Channel 4 – written and performed by the duo. In the fast paced, anarchic three-part series Prowse and Rubinstein go undercover to explore drugs, corrupt big businesses and the UK’s international weapons trade in order to expose crime, injustice and anti-social behavior in their own provocative comedic style.
